Elasticity et Capillarity

Flexible structures may be deformed by liquid interface :
for example,  microstructures may be destroyed when drying, or the wet hairs of a dog arrange in clumps.

  • image Folding drops :

A flexible plate spontaneously folds around a droplet !
Work with J.Bico, C.Py (MSC) and C.N.Baroud (LadHyX).

  • imagePiercing a liquid interface :

May a rod be too flexible to pierce a liquid interface?
Joint work with J.Bico and S.Neukirch (LMM).
     [more on this]

  • image Wet hairs :

How many hairs in the clumps of a wet dog's fur?
This question has important consequences for the stability of micro-structures in a humid environment.
joint work with J.BicoC.Py (MSC) and A.Boudaoud (LPS-ENS).
